ADAA The Art Show 2019
March 3, 2019
This year at ADAA The Art Show, Anton Kern Gallery presents a new body of portrait paintings and 'Legs' sculptures by Brian Calvin.
Following his presentation 'Così fan tutte' at the Gallery Met, the artist furthers his investigation of plasticity while illustrating the human form. Unconcerned with representation or narrative, Calvin connects to the abstract nature of painting and explores the history of figuration - from cave paintings, to the Renaissance, to the selfie - tapping into the human desire to create images. Within these new paintings, Calvin repeats, morphs, and remixes characters and poses from earlier works, creating an evolving dialogue between painter and painting.
