"Acclaimed artist Marcus Jahmal unveils Born to Break, a dynamic mixed-media
exhibition that defies convention and embraces the ethos of punk culture.
Featuring paintings, ceramics, assemblage, and precious metal jewelry, Jahmal
dramatically expands his practice with three new sculptural mediums.
At its core, Born to Break is an artistic manifesto-an assertion that to be an
artist is to break the mold, reject expectations, and embrace imperfection. The
exhibition is charged with raw energy, resistance, and the spirit of reinvention.
Jahmal's signature motifs-skulls, bulldogs, and fire hydrants-make a striking
appearance, reinforcing themes of urban grit and personal mythology.
Religious iconography weaves subtly through the show, though not in the
traditional sense. For Jahmal, creation itself is an act of devotion, an almost
spiritual compulsion to disrupt and rebuild. The exhibition's setting in Chinatown,
a neighborhood he's spent many years in growing up in NY, adds another layer
of personal significance, paying homage to the streets and culture that have
shaped his artistic vision."
